Abstract
The vision set for the Second Development Plan 2015–2020 (DP15-20) is to transform Kuwait into a financial and commercial center by 2035. The DP15-20 addresses various sectors in the country including the energy sector, which is tackled by presenting the overall goals of the oil and electricity sectors in terms of their respective capacities and performances. The plan does not explicitly tackle energy sustainability development. This work has proposed a potential sustainable energy strategy scenario and discusses the integration of the strategy within the DP15-20. The strategy is based on supply diversification to meet 15% of the demand from renewable sources by 2030, electricity energy consumption reduction of 12% in the building sector, and CO2 emission reduction of 33% by 2035.
